Terms of Service

OneSync is an open-source, client-side macOS desktop application engineered by sibansal.dev. By downloading, compiling, or using the OneSync software and this website, you acknowledge and agree to the terms described herein.

1. Scope & License Agreement

OneSync is provided as open-source software under the terms of the MIT License. You are free to view, copy, inspect, modify, merge, publish, and distribute copies of the software in accordance with the license conditions. The full text of the license is available on our License Page.

2. Architecture & One-Way Mirroring Guarantee

OneSync is designed strictly as a one-way cloud-to-local synchronization and backup client. The application uses only read-level OAuth permissions (specifically Files.Read and User.Read). Under no operational state does OneSync upload local modifications back to your Microsoft OneDrive cloud, nor does it issue deletion, rename, or alteration requests against remote OneDrive storage.

While OneSync implements atomic downloads via temporary files, cryptographic verification (SHA-256 and QuickXorHash), and quarantines displaced local files to a dedicated restored/ folder, users remain responsible for maintaining adequate backups of their hardware and storage devices.

3. Third-Party Services (Microsoft OneDrive & Graph API)

To function, OneSync interfaces directly with Microsoft Entra ID and the Microsoft Graph API. Your use of Microsoft OneDrive, authentication accounts, bandwidth allotments, and cloud storage quotas is independently governed by Microsoft's Services Agreement and Microsoft Privacy Policies.

  • OneSync is an independent project and is not endorsed, sponsored, or affiliated with Microsoft Corporation.
  • Users must comply with Microsoft API Terms of Use when utilizing personal, school, or organizational Entra ID credentials.

4. User Responsibilities & Hardware Management

You agree and acknowledge that:

  • You are responsible for selecting valid, healthy destination drives formatted with appropriate filesystems (such as APFS or exFAT) and maintaining sufficient free storage.
  • You are responsible for securing physical access to your external hard drives and Mac workstation.
  • You must comply with all applicable local, national, and international laws regarding data ownership, copyright, and storage.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the author (sibansal.dev) or contributors be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of business, hardware failure, or external drive corruption arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the software.

7. Modifications to Terms

We may revise these Terms of Service periodically to reflect updates to software capabilities, legal requirements, or platform features. The updated terms will be posted directly to this page with an updated revision date.
